The 16 bed Inpatient psychiatric unit is a community based adult unit located within Heritage Valley Sewickley. As part of both Staunton and Nursing Departments, the Psychiatric unit provides comprehensive, acute, short-term assessment and treatment of the full spectrum of psychiatric disorders. The unit provides a safe, comfortable, individualized treatment environment for those patients needing a more secure level of care as they work towards their recovery. The multidisciplinary treatment team is comprised of an attending psychiatrist, a certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, a nurse case manager, a psychiatric social worker, nurses, occupational therapy, and case management services. This team works closely with families and other care providers, along with outpatient programs to provide the patient with a seamless delivery system for continuity of care.
- All patients receive a comprehensive evaluation within 24 hours of admission.
- Services that are offered on the inpatient psychiatric unit include:
- Daily contact with psychiatrist
- Group therapy
- Occupational therapy assessment and groups
- Medication management
- Family therapy as indicated
- One-on–one therapy

The inpatient unit’s main phone number is 412-749-7140. The nursing staff will answer 24 hours /day.
The case manager/social worker assigned to each patient is available to speak with family members- in person or by phone Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To reach them call 412-749-7142.
You may call your loved one on the pay phone at 412-749-9821 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. daily during non-scheduled group and activity times. Calls are limited to 10 minutes.

Children under 12 are not permitted on the unit without special permission and a doctor’s order. All items brought in for patients must first be checked at the nurse’s station. For safety reasons, dangerous items (such as lighters, matches, etc.) are never permitted on the unit.
Staunton Clinic is part of the Heritage Valley Health System, which is a JCAHO accredited provider.
