SEWICKLEY, PA (June 13, 2008) – Thirty-one students in the Heritage Valley Sewickley School of Nursing Class of 2008 participated in commencement ceremonies at the Edgeworth Club in Edgeworth on Sunday, June 8.

The graduates are Christopher Bedford of Sewickley, Dawn Bellotti of Pittsburgh, Mary Belohlavek of Moon, Amanda Bombiani of Aliquippa, Tracy Bowers of Moon, Cassandra Clark of Beaver Falls, Faith Colley of Pittsburgh, Shelly Conroy of Sewickley, Megan Cook of Moon, Abigail Creese of Harmony, Sonya Davis of Rochester, Natalie Delo of Ambridge, Shiela Goosby of Rochester, Stephanie Lucas of Aliquippa, Jennifer Lucci of Monaca, Cynthia Mathews of Beaver, Sarah Matous of Pittsburgh, Ryan Morgan of Freedom, Audra Pazul of New Kensington, Kristen Plutko of Monaca, Danielle Reel of Pittsburgh, Luanne Romantine of Moon, Sharise Salafranca of Moon, Stacy Shetler of Sewickley, Kathleen Smith of Vanport, Melissa Snouffer of Monaca, Nicole Spagnolo of Ambridge, Heidi Stripp of Oakdale, Marie Wilson of Moon, Kristi Young of Beaver Falls and Sharon Young of Freedom.

The graduates have accepted nursing positions within Heritage Valley Sewickley and Beaver as well as Pittsburgh-area hospitals.

At the graduation, Marilu Piotrowski, director, Heritage Valley Sewickley School of Nursing, presided and awarded the students their nursing pins. Laura Vassamillet, chair, Heritage Valley Health System Board of Directors awarded the diplomas. Dr. Kenneth Hartman, director of nursing ABC, was the keynote speaker. Offering congratulatory remarks were the following individuals from Heritage Valley Health System: Norman Mitry, president and CEO; Rose Nolan, COO and CNO; and Dr. James Meditch, president, Medical Staff. Vicki Lauffer, faculty member, presented the traditional graduation rose.

Special awards or recognition were given to Marie Wilson, who received the Faculty Award for the highest academic achievement. Tracy Bowers received the Ruth V. Myers Alumni Award and Dawn Bellotti received the Flora Guthrie Applegate Award for outstanding nursing care.

Heritage Valley Sewickley School of Nursing offers students two flexible programs, an accelerated 22-month program and a progressive 33-month program, both starting in September. The program combines course credits from La Roche College with a wide range of clinical nursing courses. The program is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission. At the end of the program, the graduates are eligible to take the national licensing examination for registered nurses. Credits are transferable to BSN and MSN programs, providing students with educational mobility.
