Beaver, PA (June 16, 2008) – Five family physicians will be honored at a graduation ceremony on June 27 at Seven Oaks Country Club for completing their family medicine residency training at Heritage Valley Beaver.
The graduates and their plans are: Amber Fedin, D.O., originally from Moon Twp, PA served as chief resident from April 2007 to March 2008. Following graduation, she will be employed by Heritage Valley as a family physician. Dr. Fedin will also be teaching part-time in the residency program while completing a faculty development fellowship through Michigan State University; Catherine Navarro, M.D., originally from the Philippines will be joining a multi-specialty group in Melbourne, Florida; Anda Yangson, M.D., originally from the Philippines, will be practicing traditional Family Medicine in Grande Rhonde Hospital, La Grande, Oregon; Deanne Della Toffalo, D.O., originally from Sarver, PA, will be working as a hospitalist at The Butler Memorial Hospital; Wendy Redmond, M.D., originally from Grindstone, PA, is undecided about her plans.
Established in 1979, Heritage Valley Beaver’s family medicine residency program is a fully accredited, three-year educational program. The education required to become a family physician includes four years of college, four years of medical school, and an additional three years of rigorous training in an accredited family medicine residency training program. As part of their residency, family physicians receive training in six major medical areas: pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, psychiatry and neurology, surgery and community medicine. They also receive instruction in many areas including geriatrics, emergency medicine, ophthalmology, radiology, orthopedics, otolaryngology and urology. As a result, family physicians are the only specialists qualified to treat most ailments, and to provide comprehensive health care for people of all ages.
