Moon Township, PA, (June 29, 2011) –Six Beaver County students were recently awarded with the 2011 Heritage Valley Beaver Medical Staff Scholarships. Awardees included Sarah Calve, Lara Ann Conkle, Jeffrey Dawson, Kelly A. Horchak, Jamie McCrory and Valerie A. Miller
In March, Beaver County residents pursuing an education for a healthcare career field were invited to apply for one of six scholarships (ranging from $500 to $1,000) awarded by the medical staff of Heritage Valley Beaver.
This is the twelfth year of the annual scholarship program. On an annual basis, Heritage Valley Beaver physicians designate a portion of medical staff dues to help local residents fund their healthcare education. Applicants were required to be in their senior year of high school or high school graduates and provide proof of matriculation in order to receive any scholarship monies.
“Scholarship selection was based upon financial need, academic achievement, involvement in school and community activities, work and volunteer experience and plans for a career in a medical field,” said Alexander Vasilakis, M.D., F.A.C.S, director of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Heritage Valley. “We are happy to offer these scholarships each year to deserving Beaver County students and wish this year’s recipients much success in their college careers,” added Vasilakis, who also serves as the Heritage Valley Beaver Medical Staff Secretary/Treasurer and Scholarship Committee Chairman.
