The Cameos of Caring Award honors exceptional bedside nurses who work in acute care hospitals. Ros and Patty will be honored at the 13th Annual Cameos of Caring Awards Gala on November 5, 2011 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Roslyn Arndt has been a nurse for 35 years and is currently a full time Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Heritage Valley Sewickley. She is a 1976 graduate of Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina where she graduated with honors. She resides with her family in McKees Rocks, Pa. Ros is a member of Pennsylvania Association of Post Anesthesia Nurses (PAPAN) and the American Society of Peri-Anesthesia Nurses (ASPAN).

Nursing is a natural part of who Ros is. She comfortably carries it everywhere, readily revealed out in the community and at work. “I believe people can sense, see, and know my love of this profession in general,” states Ros. She encourages others to investigate nursing as a fascinating and varied career possibility.

Patty Barilaro has been a nurse for 19 years and is currently a full time Registered Nurse on Level 1 an Adult Medical Surgical Oncology Unit at Heritage Valley Beaver. She is a 1992 graduate of Community College of Beaver County and resides with her family in Monaca, Pa. Patty recalls a very wise counselor at CCBC encouraged her to try nursing. Patty did pursue nursing with many doubts but never any regrets. “The joy, excitement, knowledge, experiences, stress, sadness, and encouragement” that come with being a nurse are the reasons Patty loves what she does.

Patty frequently shares her vast knowledge by precepting students and new nurses and volunteering to serve as a preceptor for Kent State students completing their leadership internship. Patty was instrumental in developing the chemotherapy skills lab on her unit, and serves as an instructor to teach new chemo nurses assessment skills, documentation, and chemotherapy administration and helps them to understand the effects of chemo.
