Moon Township, PA, (May 28, 2012) –On Monday, May 14, the inaugural Shane Conlan Golf Classic took place at Diamond Run Golf Club in Sewickley, PA. The new, annual event, which grossed more than $45,000 for the Heritage Valley Sewickley Foundation, included 27 foursomes participating in a scramble-format tournament, a silent auction and awards dinner.

A former linebacker, Shane Conlan won two national championships with Penn State University and played in the NFL from 1987-1995 with the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams. During his NFL career, he was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, a three-time All Pro and played in three Super Bowls. Today, Shane is a Vice President with Esmark and has been instrumental in developing the new Esmark Center building to be located just off Ohio River Boulevard in Edgeworth. Shane, his wife Caroline and their four children have lived in Sewickley for the past 16 years.
“I was approached by a friend, Dr. Shelly McQuone, to be involved with the tournament and I was happy to participate,” said Conlan. “I wanted to do what I could to help raise money for Heritage Valley Sewickley, our community hospital, which has been a resource to my family, friends and neighbors. The tournament was a success and I can’t wait for next year!”
The tournament was supported by many community members and area businesses, including top sponsor Esmark and featured special celebrity golfer Carol Semple Thompson. Tournament committee members included: Shane and Caroline Conlan, Jeff Fecko, Dr. Shelly McQuone, Lynn Vescio, Missy Walls and Tracy Yates.
