Heritage Valley Health System recognizes the special communication needs of patients and their families with hearing, vision or expressive impairments. We have a list of employee volunteers who can serve as foreign-speaking interpreters for hospital patients who are unable to speak English. If necessary, we also can contact Language Line Service, a company that provides interpretation via telephone round-the-clock.
We also have volunteer sign language interpreters or, if necessary, we will arrange for a qualified interpreter from either Pittsburgh Hearing, Speech & Deaf Services, Inc. or Youngstown Hearing & Speech Center.
To arrange for an interpreter, call case management at 412.749.7730. Lists of volunteers are also located in admissions, nursing administration, emergency and with the hospitals' operators.
