With over 400 accredited family medicine residency programs in the United States, how can you select one that will best meet your needs? Let me introduce the Family Medicine Residency Program of Heritage Valley Beaver, Pennsylvania to you.
Accredited in 1979, we have graduated over 140 residents. Currently, we are approved for six residents per year. We are affiliated with the Pennsylvania State University School of Medicine in Hershey and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia. Our hospital is a progressive 358-bed facility with state-of-the-art technology, including cardiothoracic surgery. Our program emphasizes procedural skills and extensive internal medicine and pediatric training. We provide the full spectrum of family medicine, including taking care of newborns and managing complicated patients in the intensive care unit. Our hospital is located in a top-ranked community just 35 miles north of Pittsburgh and minutes away from the Pittsburgh International Airport. Heritage Valley Beaver offers excellent pay and benefits including generous health, life and disability insurance.
Our outpatient training provides comprehensive medical care for many of the underserved patients in Beaver County. Annually, the residency is responsible for 15,000 outpatient visits at our Family Practice Center, 200 deliveries, and 6,000 admissions to the hospital. Night call is often enough to be a valuable learning experience but not so oppressive as to interfere with enjoying your family. During the first year, call is approximately every 6th night. The second year residents participate in weekend call and all 2nd and 3rd year residents participate in night float. Perhaps one of the most important reasons for considering the program is that family medicine is the only residency in the hospital and all rotations, except for two weeks of neonatology (done in Pittsburgh), can be taken at Heritage Valley Beaver.
I am very excited about our residency program. We are in the process of building a new 20,000 square foot, state-of-the-art Family Practice Center that we expect to move into in September 2009. If you are interested in finding out more about training at Heritage Valley Beaver, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
James P. McKenna, Director
