Family Medicine Residency Program Mission Statement
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Family Medicine Residency Program of The Medical Center, Beaver was established to provide training according to the standards of the American Board of Family Medicine, the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education, and the American Osteopathic Association to qualified graduates of Allopathic and Osteopathic Medical Colleges. The Family Medicine Residency Program of Heritage Valley Beaver was established to provide training according to the standards of the American Board of Family Medicine, the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education, and the American Osteopathic Association to qualified graduates of Allopathic and Osteopathic Medical Colleges. The Family Practice Center was established to meet the requirement for an office site, equipped and staffed, to provide comprehensive health care to the population of the community without access to a family physician. Patient services are provided with an emphasis on education, preventive measures, early detection, prompt treatment, appropriate referral, and continuity. Process improvement is used to enhance the quality of both resident education and patient care.
Objectives:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • To operate the Family Practice Center as a department of the hospital under the supervision and direction of the Family Medicine Residency Director.
  • To seek faculty physicians that meet the same requirements and qualifications, which apply to the attending medical staff of the hospital; to consider special demands of the residency program and Family Practice Center in relation to the individual appointments.
  • To make available clinical laboratory, x-ray, and other diagnostic and therapeutic services to facilitate the provision of care.
  • To utilize the total quality plan at Heritage Valley Health Systems to monitor services for process improvement.
  • To keep accurate and complete medical records on all patients including social and scientific data, which are filed and cross-indexed in such a manner as to be readily available, yet preserve confidentiality.
  • To limit patients accepted for care to the number that can be cared for by the 18 residents and two CRNPs on duty and accommodated by the space and equipment available.
  • To make appointments with a minimum of waiting time for the patient and in a manner that will make the least possible demand upon the patient’s physical and emotional endurance.
  • To promote an active program of health education for patients and for the community with respect to both health maintenance and appropriate use of health services.
