- Conference and travel allowance for PGY-2 and PGY-3; up to $1,000 and 5 days

A four-week Child Development/Parenting Elective (Perinatology) is available to residents parenting new children during their residency. This elective is developed by the resident with the help of his or her advisor to take advantage of the unique learning issues that parenting and childbirth present. This elective may only be taken once, and is restricted to second- or third-year residents.

A leave of absence (LOA) may be granted if a resident needs to be off for longer than 14 days or if he/she has used all PTO time. This is unpaid time off, and must be made up at the end of the residency. A resident must have completed six months of residency to be eligible for consideration for an LOA. LOA time granted is not to exceed six months in the three-year residency period.

Moonlighting privileges are extended to second- and third-year residents. Requests for privileges to moonlight, including where it will take place, must be submitted in writing to the program director. Residents must possess an Interim Limited or Unrestricted license before submitting a request for moonlighting. Residency malpractice insurance will not cover moonlighting outside of Heritage Valley Health System.
