The Podiatric Residency Program of Heritage Valley Beaver, is a busy 20- year-old well rounded PM&S36. Alumni of this program are graduates of podiatry schools in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Iowa and New York. The Externship Program is open to students from all seven Colleges of Podiatric Medicine.
The Podiatric Residency Program is the only Surgical Residency Program at Heritage Valley Beaver. The hospital also sponsors a Family Medicine Residency Program. Externs will work closely with the podiatric residents, both in the hospital and at private offices. Externs assist the residents at a geriatric clinic at a neighboring facility. There are many opportunities to observe and possibly scrub in during surgical procedures.
Externs attend the weekly lectures provided by the faculty. They also present articles at the monthly Journal Club. The opportunity to meet and work with the attendings is available by rotating through different offices.
The externship is a four-week rotation open to 1 or 2 students each month. Living accommodations are at no cost. A food allowance in the hospital cafeteria is provided.
If you are interested in an externship, applications should be made using the AACPM Uniform Application. The application should be sent to:
