A family-centered approach to pediatric nursing enables the student to assist the family in fostering growth and development of the child and in promoting an optimum state of health. Emphasis is placed on anticipating and meeting the needs of children and families who require preventative health care, as well as with acute and chronic illness. Opportunities are provided for students to care for children of various age groups at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Observational experiences are also provided in the community to give a comprehensive introduction to family-centered nursing care of children.
