There are three (3) pre-requisites courses: Algebra, preferably Biology with Lab or Anatomy and Physiology with a lab, and Chemistry with Lab. The three pre-requisite courses can be from high school or college as long as the grade received was a C or better. The two science courses with labs should be four (4) credit courses if you have or are taking them on the college level.

Yes, general college courses are required to graduate. They are taught at our school, by LaRoche College instructors. These courses are as follows:
Anatomy & Physiology I
Anatomy & Physiology II
College Writing I
Science of Nutrition
Microbiology
Introduction to Psychology
Introduction to Sociology
For our students who need to complete general college courses, LaRoche offers an inexpensive and convenient program to our students. LaRoche instructors hold the classes here at the School of Nursing, at a substantial savings. Financial Aid is also available to those who qualify.

Once a student is accepted at Heritage Valley Sewickley School of Nursing, the Registrar of the School of Nursing will evaluate credits earned at another school. The Registrar will determine if the credits earned are comparable to the courses required by the School of Nursing. Anatomy and Physiology,and Microbiology must have been taken within the past ten years. Grades of C- or below will not be accepted for transfer credits.

In the Accelerated program, the college courses and nursing courses are taken during the same semesters beginning the first term. In the Progressive program, the college courses will generally be completed during the first year so that the student can concentrate on the nursing courses during the second and third year.

A graduate of Heritage Valley Sewickley School of Nursing will have 24 college credits from LaRoche College and 30 to 40 nursing equivalent credits from the School of Nursing. These credits are transferable into many RN to BSN completion programs.

We do not have an evening/weekend program. Our classes are scheduled Monday through Friday, usually between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm.

The School of Nursing does offer advanced placement to LPNs who meet certain criteria, including: a minimum of one (1) year clinical experience in the last five (5) years or has graduated from an accredited program within the last year, verification of current Pennsylvania practical nurse licensure, score on NLN Mobility Profile for LPNs. These criteria are in addition to the admissions criteria for any applicant requesting acceptance to the School f Nursing.
