Chest wall resection and reconstruction—Cancer can not only involve the lungs but also invade the chest wall. Often it is beneficial to remove the segment of the chest wall involved by the cancer. If a large segment of chest wall is removed it can be reconstructed with the patients own tissue or with synthetic material.

Infection and trauma can also cause damage and defects to the chest wall requiring reconstruction for cosmetic and functional purposes.
