The UPMC/Heritage Valley Cancer Centers are a joint venture between the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and Heritage Valley Health System in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI). The UPCI is the region’s only National Cancer Institute and designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. These centers were created to provide patients with the most comprehensive cancer care available. Our goal is to provide effective, comprehensive care utilizing high-tech equipment and the most advanced cancer-fighting techniques. This gives patients the type of high-quality cancer care once available only at major university medical centers close to home. The UPMC/Heritage Valley Cancer Centers reflect Heritage Valley Health System’s mission to improve the health and well-being of all people in the communities we serve.
The UPMC/HVHS Cancer Center was created to provide patients with the most comprehensive cancer care available. Because of this unique collaboration, cancer patients now have convenient access to such advanced treatments as intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). IMRT allows radiation oncologists to better target treatment by “sculpting” the contours of the irregularly shaped tumor with an intense dose of radiation. This process minimizes the damage to surrounding normal tissue resulting in far fewer side effects. Radiation oncologists at the UPMC/HVHS Cancer Center work together with respected cancer specialists to develop the most effective patient treatment plans. The UPMC/HVHS cancer care team focuses on providing comprehensive support, while at the same time recognizing the individual needs of the patient.
The UPMC/Heritage Valley Cancer Centers are located at Heritage Valley Beaver and at UPMC West in Moon Twp., and are accredited by the American College of Radiation Oncologists. Both facilities provide residents with comprehensive cancer treatment services including:
