What is an EEG?

An EEG is a graphic record of the brain waves. This test measures the electrical activity from millions of brain cells and may help your doctor to diagnose brain disorders such as seizures and memory problems. The test will take approximately 1 hour.

How do I Prepare?

  1. Hair should be clean and dry. Wash your hair the night before. Do not use hairspray, gels or other hair products.
  2. Take your normal medications the day of the test
  3. Eat normally the day of the test
  4. Do not use caffeine for 12 hours prior to test.
What is an EMG?

An EMG is a test to record the electrical activity of selected muscles at rest and during exercise. The test is performed to diagnose diseases of the muscle and nerve. A neurologist will perform the test.

What is a Nerve Conduction Study?

A Nerve Conduction Study (NCV) is done to help diagnose disease and/or injuries of the nerves in your arms and legs. A technician will perform the test. The NCV test is usually done a few days prior to the EMG.

How do I Prepare?

  1. Bathe or shower on the morning of the test. Do not use any oils, lotions or creams on your skin.
  2. You may eat normally and take your usual medications.
