An EEG is a graphic record of the brain waves. This test measures the electrical activity from millions of brain cells and may help your doctor to diagnose brain disorders such as seizures and memory problems. The test will take approximately 1 hour.
How do I Prepare?
- Hair should be clean and dry. Wash your hair the night before. Do not use hairspray, gels or other hair products.
- Take your normal medications the day of the test
- Eat normally the day of the test
- Do not use caffeine for 12 hours prior to test.
A Nerve Conduction Study (NCV) is done to help diagnose disease and/or injuries of the nerves in your arms and legs. A technician will perform the test. The NCV test is usually done a few days prior to the EMG.
How do I Prepare?
- Bathe or shower on the morning of the test. Do not use any oils, lotions or creams on your skin.
- You may eat normally and take your usual medications.
- Keep the area of the body to be tested warm if you are having a NCV study. Wear gloves or socks if necessary.
- If on blood thinners, you will not be permitted to have an EMG.
