The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) recently
honored Heritage Valley Health System with an Achievement Award for 2014.
Heritage
Valley’s “Pay for Value” program was chosen as a winner in the
Workplace category, and was selected out of 100 total submissions. Winners were
selected for their exceptional work and innovation in focus areas that affect patients,
communities, and employees. These categories include: workplace, community benefit,
patient safety, patient care, operational excellence, and innovation.
The
Pay for Value program was introduced in 2013 as an employee incentive program aligning
performance outcomes with Value Based Purchasing – the Centers for Medicare
& Medicaid Services (CMS) initiative that rewards acute-care hospitals with
incentive payments for the quality of care provided to patients and how well hospitals
enhance patients’ experiences of care during hospital stays. The Pay
for Value program provides employees with the opportunity to earn 2% of productive
earnings, paid on a quarterly basis if certain target thresholds are met.
The thresholds vary to some degree by position and work location within the Health
System, but primarily focus on patient experience outcomes.
“Heritage
Valley Health System is honored to have earned a HAP Achievement Award for our Pay
for Value program,” said Norm Mitry, President and CEO of Heritage Valley
Health System. “In this ‘ever-changing and ever-challenging’
competitive market, it is essential that we focus on providing the highest level
of care and service to the people in the communities that we serve. The Pay for
Value program represents an important step toward aligning employee pay with how
the Health System will continue to be reimbursed. After implementing
the program for a full year, we have experienced positive movement in our customer
experience scores.”
There were a total of 15 HAP Achievement
Award winners for 2014. Entries were evaluated by a 15-judge panel representing
the public and private sectors, health care and business organizations, and for-profit
and nonprofit entities.
“HAP’s Achievement Awards recognize
the pioneering spirit and drive to innovation that will help us achieve our vision
of a healthy Pennsylvania,” said HAP President and CEO Andy Carter. “Building
the health care system of the future is exceptionally tough work, but by spreading
the word about best practices, we can accelerate change. I’m grateful to Heritage
Valley Health System and all the competitors for their leadership and collaborative
spirit.”
