Heritage Valley WoundCare Director, Thomas Michael, MD, CWSP Receives Certified Would Specialist Physician Designation
Established in 1995, the American Board of Wound Management (ABWM) is dedicated to the multidisciplinary team approach in promoting the science of prevention, care and treatment of acute and chronic wounds. The primary function is to establish and monitor a national certification process, recognize competency, promote education/research, and evaluate the standard of care across the continuum of wound management. Currently the ABWM has certified approximately 3,700 individuals nationwide with their three wound management designations.
Heritage Valley WoundCare helps heal chronic wounds faster by treating the cause of the non-healing wound and applying evidence-based, medical and surgical techniques that are outcome focused and cost-effective. Treatments methods include: advanced wound dressings, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure wound therapy, bioengineered tissue, debridement, ultrasonic debridement and wraps to decrease lower leg swelling. Some of the most common types of wounds treated at WoundCare are: diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, arterial ulcers, venous ulcers, trauma, non-healing surgical wounds and any wound that has not healed in one month.
