Welcome to Associates of Internal Medicine! Our practice is part of the Heritage Valley Health Network and includes the following physicians and physician assistants: Dr. Michael Heinle, Dr. Monica Farland, Martha Pickrell PA-C, and Samantha Calcutt PA-C.

Our practice is open to patients age 16 and older. Office visits are by appointment only in our location at 1211 Third Street Beaver, PA.

The physicians’ certifications include board certifications, NCQA participation for Diabetes, and Heart and Stroke Prevention. We are also actively involved with insurance companies to provide and promote quality initiatives for your continued overall health and wellness.

Our office utilizes the Heritage Valley Electronic Health Record for improved access to medical information, allows us to transmit prescriptions electronically and we encourage participation in the Heritage Valley Health Link Portal for additional patient-physician communications methods.

Our mission is to provide our patients with comprehensive compassionate medical care oriented to each individual patient and as part of the Heritage Valley Health System, we are proud to serve the patients in our community.

Martha Pickrell, PA-C

Martha L. Pickrell, PA-C is a licensed Physician Assistant.  She has been certified for the past 38 years. Martha received her BS in Medical Science from Alderson Broaddus University.  She practiced medicine Initially in the Baltimore Area for 18 years prior to locating to the Beaver Area.  She joined the practice of Doctors Michael S. Heinle and Monica L. Farland 20 years ago where she has been actively providing urgent care to the community.

Our practice specialty is Internal Medicine, which focuses primarily on adult medicine. Medical training includes special studies focusing on the prevention and treatment of adult diseases. Internists are equipped to deal with problems, whether simple or complex. Internists are specially trained to solve puzzling diagnostic problems and can handle severe chronic illnesses and situations where several different illnesses many strike at the same time. They also bring to patients an understanding of wellness (disease prevention and the promotion of health), as well as effective treatment of common problems of the eyes, ears, skin, nervous system and reproductive organs.

When calling our office for an appointment, an automated telephone system will answer. Please listen to the instructions. When leaving a message be sure to provide us with your full name, birth date, all telephone numbers where you can be reached. If you need immediate attention or same day care advice, please press “0” for direct operator assistance. For proper appointment scheduling, please be prepared to provide us with the reason for the appointment, nature of your problem, and any other pertinent information so we can schedule the appropriate amount of time for your visit. It is difficult to properly assess this, so at times this does affect our daily schedule, as some patients require additional time when their problem is more severe than anticipated. Our commitment is to serve your medical needs at each office visit.

*If you are a new patient to our practice, we welcome you and thank you for choosing our practice. Please print out the new patient forms and HIPPA privacy information to complete in advance of your appointment. Should you have any additional questions please feel free to contact our office.

At each office visit, we ask that you bring a list of any current medication you are taking including over the counter medications and vitamins. It is important to review this information at each office visit. You may request refills on medications during your visit, or call the office if you need refills and are in between visits. Our office has the capability to send most prescriptions electronically for faster service. If you call the office for refills, these will be completed same day when possible. If you call after 4:30, it will be done the next business day. In some cases, certain prescriptions may take longer to be approved, so please call before you run out. Refills are not done over the weekend unless the physician on-call considers it an emergency situation.

Insurances
We participate in most major insurances including Advantra, Aetna, Highmark, Cigna, Gateway, Health America/Health Assurance, Keystone, Medicare, Medicaid, PHCS, Tri-Care, United Healthcare, and UPMC health plans. Co-pays and non-covered services are due at the time of service. If you are in need of additional payment options, please ask at the office. We ask that you bring your current insurance information, a picture ID, and your Heritage Valley Care Card to each appointment for HIPPA compliance and proper billing.
