At Heritage Valley VeinCare, we focus on the diagnosis and treatment of medically significant disorders of the venous and lymphatic systems of the lower extremities.
Dr. Manjoo, a Board Certified Internist with training in Venous and Lymphatic Medicine, works with patients to diagnose and formulate an individualized plan to treat and prevent the consequences of long-standing vein disease, at the heart of which is reflux or reverse flow.
These conditions, resulting from prior disease, include symptomatic varicose, reticular and spider veins, pain, swelling, heaviness, cramping, restless leg syndrome, dermatitis, discoloration, seepage, bleeding, ulcers, recurrent infections and an increased susceptibly to blood clots.
We also evaluate and educate patients on other causes of swelling/edema, with special emphasis on Lymphedema, as well as prior histories of Deep Venous Thrombosis, Superficial Thrombophlebitis and Pelvic Vein Compression.
Initial Consultation
Our initial consultation includes a thorough review of the patient’s medical and surgical history, with in-depth focus on venous and lymphatic elements, a sound education on the anatomy and basic physiology of the arterial, venous and lymphatic circulations, and a thorough physical and Duplex Ultrasound examination with recommendations for treatment.
All of the above are performed by our physician. We always strive to educate our patients and improve their understanding of the disease processes involved, and the measures that need to be taken to positively impact their venous and lymphatic health.
Procedures
Our minimally invasive procedures include Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA), where a refluxing main vein is closed with a laser, after which the body absorbs the vein. The EVLA is performed by Heritage Valley Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Jasvinder Sandhu, aided with ultrasound guidance by Dr. Manjoo.
Chemical ablation is performed by Dr. Manjoo and an assistant using a process called Sclerotherapy, where the vein closes and scars down after fine needle injections with a medicated foam. This is how we treat medically significant and symptomatic varicose, reticular and larger spider veins/telangiectasia.
We refer to a Lymphedema Therapist as indicated to mobilize fluid, learn manual lymphatic drainage massage and calf muscle pump exercises, and oversee appropriate compression, including the use of pneumatic compression (pumps). We also work closely with WoundCare when indicated.
