Michael A. Karp, MD was born and raised in Kittanning, PA. After graduating as valedictorian from St. Joseph High School in Natrona Heights, he attended and graduated cum laude from Allegheny College. He then graduated from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. Karp then went on active duty in the US Army, completing his residency in Family Practice at Dewitt Army Community Hospital in Fort Belvoir, VA. After finishing his residency, Dr. Karp served four more years in the Army, leading a joint Army/Navy Family Practice Clinic at Patterson Army Community Hospital, Fort Monmouth, NJ. After completing his time in the military, Karp returned to the Pittsburgh area to start working for Sewickley Valley Hospital, which then became Heritage Valley Health System.
During his time with Heritage Valley, Dr. Karp has helped lead clinics in Wexford, Ambridge, and now Sewickley and Cranberry Township. Dr. Karp has helped at Heritage Valley offices in Baden, West Allegheny, Moon Township, Ellwood City, and Robinson Township. Dr. Karp provides full service family practice without obstetrics, with an emphasis on care of chronic and acute illnesses and wellness. He loves meeting and learning about new patients, helping patients deal with depression and anxiety, and working with patients and their families at the end of life.
Dr. Karp lives with his wife in Wexford, where his children attended North Allegheny School District. They have four children and five grandchildren (so far). They enjoy trips to the beach, spending time at Deep Creek, and time with their grandchildren.
