Family Medicine Center

Heritage Valley Health System's Family Medicine Center houses the office practice of the Family Medicine Residency Program. The resident physicians offer family medicine office visits, SportsCare services and a variety of specialty clinical services to patients in the surrounding communities by appointment. 

SPECIALTY CLINICS

Residents provide patient care in the following specialty clinics under the direct, one-on-one supervision of a faculty member.

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CLINIC

 The Behavioral Health Clinic provides the full range of mental health services, including counseling and medication management, to patients at the Family Medicine Center. Services are provided by resident physicians under the supervision of a licensed psychologist and board-certified family physicians. Depending on the nature of the concerns, counseling may be conducted on an individual, couple/marital, or family basis. Some common concerns addressed in the clinic include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, ADHD, child behavioral management and marital and family concerns.

MEDICATION-ASSISTED TREATMENT CLINIC

The Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) clinic provides office-based medical management to patients who are diagnosed with opioid use disorders and/or alcohol use disorders. The goal is to help patients using a range of treatment modalities to promote recovery, including pharmacotherapy, behavioral counseling, and social work assistance. Residents, through rotations in the MAT clinic, will have opportunities to provide direct care to patients under the supervision of attending physicians, in order to enhance their knowledge and gain clinical experience in practicing MATin the primary care setting.    

OBSTETRICS & GYNECOLOGY CLINIC

The Obstetrics & Gynecology Clinic offers our patients comprehensive prenatal, postpartum and gynecological care for women of all ages. Our physicians provide compassionate, confidential care for sensitive women’s health issues including the performance of many minor gynecologic office procedures. These services are provided to our patients at a dedicated OB/GYN facility one block from the Family Medicine Center.  Residents have the opportunity to follow patients throughout the course of their pregnancy and Labor & Delivery care is provided in the modern LDR (Labor/Delivery/Recovery) suites at Heritage Valley Beaver.  Additionally, all appointments are supervised by experienced Board Certified OB/GYN physicians allowing for immediate surgical consultation when necessary.

OMT CLINIC

The Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) Clinic provides an on-site manual treatment option for our patients and a one-on-one learning opportunity for our osteopathic residents. Osteopathic residents learn new techniques and refine the OMT skills they bring from their medical school training.  Osteopathic residents are scheduled to see patients in the OMT clinic longitudinally over three years under the supervision of an Osteopathic faculty member. Techniques performed in OMT clinic include, but are not limited to, myofascial, muscle energy, counterstrain, and HVLA. Pathologies treated in the clinic include various spine and extremity musculoskeletal complaints. OMT clinic has x-ray available on-site for prompt diagnostic evaluation as indicated. Allopathic residents who have an interest in learning OMT can discuss this interest directly with the Osteopathic Program Director.

PROCEDURE CLINIC

The Procedures Clinic operates to provide patients access to clinical procedures that can be performed in the physician office setting. Performing procedures at the Family Medicine Center gives patients more timely access to care without having to go to the hospital or wait to see a specialist. Among the procedures performed at the Procedure Clinic are:skin biopsy, cyst removal, mole removal, skin tag removal, ingrown toenail removal, laceration repair, abscess - incision and drainage, joint and bursa injections, cryotherapy (freezing) of skin lesions, injections to minimize acne or keloid scars, trigger point injections for chronic muscle spasms, and IUD insertion and removal.

PODIATRY CLINIC (optional resident participation)

The Podiatry Clinic operates to provide comprehensive foot care for patients of all ages.  Staffed by board-certified podiatrists, the Podiatry Clinic allows patients more timely and convenient access to foot care.  A variety of conditions are addressed including diabetic foot care, complete nail care, heel pain, bunions, hammer toes, corns/calluses, warts, and flat feet.

SPORTSCARE CLINIC

The Heritage Valley SportsCare Clinic provides care to residents of Beaver County who are referred from other primary care practices for Sports Medicine specialty care. A primary focus of the SportsCare Clinic is concussion care, both for athletes and for patients with concussions sustained in motor vehicle accidents, falls, or work accidents. SportsCare also provides evaluation and treatment for musculoskeletal injuries that occur during sports competition, as well as injuries that occur during daily life activities. SportsCare has x-ray, ultrasound and lab services on-site to assist in providing prompt diagnostic evaluation. Residents on the Orthopedics and Sports Medicine rotations will rotate through this clinic and provide care under the supervision of the Primary Care Sports Medicine attending. Emphasis is placed on learning musculoskeletal and neurologic physical exam skills.  Residents also learn diagnostic and treatment approaches to the management of concussion and common musculoskeletal problems in primary care.
