At Heritage Valley, we are committed to providing our community with a comprehensive BreastCare program that offers prevention, services, support and continuum of care planning. Our BreastCare program offers a range of services, from screening and diagnostic breast imaging to treatment plans for breast cancer delivered by committed, high-quality technologists and physicians. Our BreastCare Navigator is specially trained to work with patients to compassionately coordinate breast procedures and continuum of care plans. All of these services are available within the Heritage Valley Health System network, so you do not have to travel far for services.
The primary BreastCare locations are the Heritage Valley Women’s Health Centers located in Center and Robinson Townships. We are proud to note that each of the Heritage Valley Women’s Health Centers is designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). There are additional mammogram screening locations in our medical neighborhoods located in Chippewa, Edgeworth, Ellwood City, and Calcutta, Ohio.
Heritage Valley BreastCare provides Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (also known as 3D mammograms) for screening and diagnostic testing. Our digital breast mammograms all include computer-aided detection, ICAD ProFound Artificial Intelligence. Depending on findings from your breast imaging study, other types of imaging tests may be needed. The BreastCare program has the capacity for further testing, including:
- Additional diagnostic mammography views
- Breast ultrasound (2D and 3D)
- Breast MRI
- Ductogram
Mammography
Screening mammograms have proven to be the most effective tool for the early detection of breast cancer, and are recommended for women 40 years of age and older and those younger women who may be at special risk for developing breast cancer. Heritage Valley provides Digital Breast Tomosynthesis for both screening and diagnostic mammograms.
Self-Requesting Mammograms
All of our mammography locations offer Self-Requesting Mammograms, which means that a patient with an established PCP and/or OB-GYN who has been seen within the last 12 months may schedule a screening mammogram without obtaining an order annually. To self-schedule, go to My Care Link and click on the Mammography Exam icon.
Walk-in Mammograms
On Mondays in the Robinson Township and Ellwood City Medical Neighborhoods, patients may walk in and request a screening mammogram. No appointment needed!
Additional screening sites, located in our Medical Neighborhoods, include:
- Heritage Valley Calcutta
- Heritage Valley Chippewa
- Heritage Valley Edgeworth
- Heritage Valley Ellwood City
Treatment
When a mammogram or test uncovers an issue it can be a difficult time, filled with anxiety. Heritage Valley’s BreastCare Navigator is specially trained to work with patients in this situation to efficiently and compassionately coordinate follow-up care, timely diagnosis and treatment.
Heritage Valley’s BreastCare program provides a simple, diagnostic pathway led by the BreastCare Navigator to follow the patient from screening imaging through minimally invasive biopsy techniques and ultimately, if needed, coordinated follow-up care. Follow-up treatments are available within the Heritage Valley Health System and include surgical consultation, medical and surgical oncology consultation and treatment, referrals to support programs and other services determined to be appropriate.
Every step of the way, the BreastCare Navigator will be in close contact with the patient to explain treatment options and schedule the next appointment. The goal is to help alleviate much of the stress associated with this experience.
